Why does my pine shelf have a waney edge?Updated 2 months ago

A waney edge is a natural feature that appears when timber is cut close to the outer edge of the tree, near the bark. It results in a softer, uneven curve rather than a sharp, uniform edge — and is considered a hallmark of authentic, rustic furniture. While more commonly found in oak, waney edges can occasionally be seen in our pine shelves too. They reflect the organic shape of the tree and are part of the design charm we embrace at Funky Chunky Furniture. These features do not affect the structural integrity of the piece and are not considered faults — they’re a celebration of real wood in its most natural, characterful form.
